Gear doesn’t matter… Let me explain.

To piggyback off of my previous “gear” post, I want to make something very clear. Equipment is only one part of the photography equation and quite honestly, it’s probably the least important aspect.

Let me explain.

Yes, having top end gear does make a noticeable difference in image quality, all things being equal. However, the point to remember here is that if you have high end gear but you don’t have the skillsets required to compose, expose, and capture a great photo, you’re just going to have a really high quality image that looks like crap! Point in case: if you handed me the very best paint and paint brushes in the world… I would create a work of art that looked like something that normally gets brought home from kindergarten and hung on the fridge! The fact of the matter is that without the right technique and skill set, you’re going to struggle to create anything meaningful and you’re better off spending that money on decent equipment and some photography classes to help you get started!

That’s it! Short and sweet, but definitely a topic that needs reminding every now and again!

Cheers!
