Just Do It (Please don’t sue me, Nike!)

Much like my singing career, this blog post is going to be short and oh so sweet!

The fact of the matter is that sometimes, the most valuable advice you might receive is also the most obvious. All this really tells us is that from time to time, we need to be reminded of things!

I don’t know about you, but I have had many instances where I just didn’t feel like shooting. I wanted new content for social media and to refresh my portfolio, but I just didn’t have the energy or desire to get up, get out, and get dope shots! This happens to the best of us and you shouldn’t feel bad about it. It’s simply a matter of getting up and getting going.

The best example I can give you is actually the story behind the cover shot of this blog post. This “Gotham x Miami Vice” inspired shot of my hometown of Fort Lauderdale, FL (Fort Liquordale for those who know!) was a shot that I had planned for AGES. I literally knew the spot, the scene, the weather, the angle, the equipment, and everything else involved. All I had left to do was get out and press the dang button! Unfortunately life happens and it can really delay your plans. My plans for this specific shot were in place for almost two years. Yes. 2! While I love how the shoot turned out, the fact that I sat on it for two whole years is a little upsetting to me. Luckily, I’m a glass half full kind of guy and I can recognize that there is a silver lining. This endeavor turned into a lesson for me.

That lesson is very simple: when you feel lazy or unmotivated or swamped with life… just do it! Get up, get out, go take the shot. You might come home with the one shot you wanted, or you might find motivation along the way while you are out (as I did when I went out for this image) and you’ll be glad you did! Even if it isn’t your “bucket shot” … like Peter McKinnon said, “Done is better than perfect.

That’s it. Short and sweet as promised!

Cheers!
